'It is crucial now to regain our place in Europe,' Emery stated. 'The premier competition we aim for is the Champions League. For the final six games, our objective is to secure a spot in both Europe and the Champions League.'
Reaching this stage is the subsequent advancement, and my aim is to secure victory with Aston Villa. We participated in two matches, putting up strong competition. Throughout our ongoing efforts, tonight marked the peak of our performance so far.
'When we face teams such as PSG in the Champions League, that’s when we can see how well we’re responding. I’m extremely pleased and confident with the way we are elevating our game.'
'The players have demonstrated their ability to perform at this caliber—defeating teams like Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. We aim for consistency across all competitions, whether with our current squad or by bringing in additional high-quality players if necessary.'
'I have great confidence in our capability to achieve our goals this season provided we continue to put in maximum effort right up to the last matches we compete in.'
Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes scored early goals, putting PSG in command; however, Youri Tielemans' deflected shot just before halftime offered Aston Villa some optimism.
When John McGinn and Ezri Konsa found the net within four quickfire seconds during the second half, Aston Villa thought they might pull off a remarkable turnaround. However, Gianluigi Donnarumma made incredible saves to keep them at bay. Ultimately, PSG secured their victory when Ian Maatsen’s late strike was thwarted in added time.
Konsa stated: "Tonight, we've demonstrated that we're capable of competing at the top tier and aspire to continue doing so next year. Initially, I believed we were going to score another goal. The game seemed headed our way as we exerted significant pressure, with Ian Maatsen having a good opportunity. While we feel immensely proud of our performance tonight, conceding those two early goals ultimately undermined us."
Following a subdued initial period, Marcus Rashford excelled in the second half. He made an impressive dash and took a shot that prompted a remarkable save from Donnarumma. The loan player from Manchester United then demonstrated exceptional skill to assist Konsa in scoring their team’s third goal.
Rashford's future will be decided after the conclusion of the season. Emery stated, "He feels more comfortable and improved; today he had an outstanding game. We share his joy when he's content. Planning for a potential signing this summer is challenging at present. Ultimately, everything hinges on how things evolve over the coming weeks and the status of our situation throughout the upcoming year."
