Childhood Sports Played Laid Fitness Foundation for KKR’s Manish Pandey

Chandigarh (Punjab), [India], April 14 (ANI): Indian cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders player Manish Pandey discussed how his family’s military heritage has contributed to his athletic career and fitness regimen, mentioning that he engaged in various sports during his childhood which laid a strong groundwork for him.

During an episode of 'Train Like a Knight' featured on KKR's YouTube page, Manish shared his daily routine and workout regimen with his audience.

Renowned for his elegant batting and dynamic fielding, the Indian ace emphasized the importance of discipline in his routine. He mentioned, “Growing up with an army background was beneficial since we could participate in various sports during childhood. This allowed me to build a strong foundational fitness level at a young age. My approach remains straightforward; I focus on achieving my objectives, typically including two strength training and two cardiovascular workouts each week.”

Regarding a balanced and nourishing diet, the 35-year-old mentioned that they lean towards a lighter breakfast followed by exercise sessions. They explained, “I’m not one who eats a substantial breakfast. Usually, I have some eggs along with porridge since this allows me to begin working out within about an hour.”

"For lunch, since I’ve completed my workout at the gym, I tend to eat more heartily as it prepares me for any evening sports activities. Maybe I’ll have another hard-boiled egg along with some yogurt to round things off,” he mentioned.

In response to a question during the event, Manish stated that regardless of what meal he is eating—be it "rice and lentils"—he insists that there should always be yogurt included.

"It is obviously good for the gut, especially during the summers, to make one feel nice and light," he said.

Manish Pandey mentioned that he also considers other sources such as flaxseeds and fish oil, which are high in omega-3 fatty acids and crucial for recovery and overall bodily wellness.

Manish, who has achieved modest success representing India in 29 One Day Internationals and 39 Twenty20 internationals, boasts a tally of 1,275 runs including one century and five half-centuries. Among the select group of athletes to participate across every season of the Indian Premier League, Manish has accumulated 3,869 runs from 172 games, maintaining an average of 29.09 and striking at a rate of 121.17, along with another century and 22 more fifty-plus scores under his belt. Notably, he became the inaugural Indian batsman to hit an IPL hundred and secured two titles as part of Kolkata Knight Riders' squad. (ANI)
