The Ogun State Government has revealed the mascot, logo, and theme song for the 2024 National Sports Festival, which will be called Gateway Games 2024.
During the inauguration event in Abeokuta on Tuesday evening, Governor Dapo Abiodun stated that the state is prepared to host an impressive National Sports Festival taking place from May 16-30.
Mr. Abiodun, who was represented by his Deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, stated that the festival would serve as a benchmark in the annals of the games.
We are prepared to elevate the standards considerably, after nearly twenty years since Ogun last held this multisport event.
He mentioned that the mascot embodies the vigor and cultural legacy of the fine residents of Ogun.
The governor praised the Local Organizing Committee for their tireless efforts around the clock to guarantee success.
He mentioned that the state government had invested heavily in sports infrastructure, which he felt would endure long after the events and continue to be beneficial.
Governor Abiodun affirmed to the Ogun State athletes that their efforts had full support from the government, urging residents to enthusiastically join in and extend warm hospitality to visitors throughout the duration of the event.
He portrayed sports as a cohesive force, noting that it still serves as a launching pad for athletes seeking international acclaim and success.
Mr. Abiodun sought backing from stakeholders, emphasizing that everyone should contribute their effort to attain the intended objectives.
The 2024 edition will set new standards with groundbreaking concepts and top-notch arrangements that will transform the overall festival experience.
The theme song was created by Dr. Bayo Adepetun, and the mascot was developed by a creative group from the state’s Cultural Ministry.
He stated that the symbolic elements represent the vitality, cultural legacy, and ambitions of the esteemed residents of Ogun.
The NAN organization states that the sports festival, now in its 22nd iteration, occurs every two years and gathers thousands of participants from all 36 states of Nigeria along with the Federal Capital Territory. This event celebrates athletic prowess, fosters national cohesion, and highlights outstanding achievements in sports.
The festival, a celebration of Nigeria's rich sports and cultural heritage, is billed to feature athletes competing in 33 sporting events.
In the 21st edition of the 2022 festival, Delta emerged as the champions, securing 320 gold medals, 200 silver medals, and 128 bronze medals.
Team Bayelsa secured the second position in the medal standings, closely followed by Team Edo, which claimed the third spot.
