The MTN Champs Season 3 Lagos Continental Relays came to an end on April 12, 2025, featuring a lively closing ceremony held at the Yabatech Sports Complex.
The occasion represented a significant milestone for sports in Nigeria, highlighting the introduction of Olympic-sanctioned mixed relay races and displaying remarkable prowess among athletes competing in different track and field disciplines.
On the concluding day, fierce rivalry combined with fun activities attracted families, friends, and employees from MTN Nigeria to watch. Attendees relished live tunes, recreational games, and were particularly excited about the eagerly awaited MTN Staff Relay race. Teams representing various sections vied for accolades and pride during this event. In the end, The Innovators triumphed spectacularly, securing first place honors in both men’s and women’s divisions.
The MTN executives likewise took part in the festivities, engaging in 50-meter dashes and stressing the significance of being physically active. The Chief Human Resources Officer, Esther Akinnukawe, underscored the company’s Go M.A.D (Make A Difference) initiative, inspiring employees to maintain an active lifestyle and make a meaningful impact in their respective areas.
The Lagos Continental Relays drew more than 2,500 registrations from 155 institutions, featuring athletes vying for honors across four age divisions: Cadet (under-14), Youth (under-17), Junior (under-20), and Senior. This gathering was not just an occasion to honor outstanding athleticism; it also underscored MTN’s dedication to fostering potential Olympic contenders and promoting sports growth within Nigeria.
The third season of MTN Champs is heading into its climax, which will be held in Uyo at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium from April 30 to May 3.
