Morocco’s under-17 national squad progressed to the finals of the African Youth Championship following their victory over Côte d'Ivoire via penalty kicks with a score of 4–3 on Monday at El Bachir Stadium in Mohammedia. The game concluded without any goals during regular playtime.
The youthful Atlas Lions controlled large portions of the opening period, generating multiple opportunities, among them an instance that almost opened the scoring. Nonetheless, despite maintaining ball control, the initial stanza concluded scoreless, as Coach Nabil Baha’s team failed to capitalize on these attempts.
In the latter part of the game, Morocco kept up the pressure but was unable to score, ultimately leading the match directly into a penalty shootout.
During the shootout, Morocco remained composed to narrowly defeat Côte d'Ivoire and secure a spot in the finals, where they will meet Mali. Earlier in the day, the West African team progressed with a 2–0 victory over Burkina Faso.
