On Tuesday, the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, revealed the mascot, logo, and theme song for the 2024 National Sports Festival scheduled to take place in the state between May 16 and 30, 2025.
Represented by her deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun vowed that the state would present "the most remarkable, most inclusive, and most inspirational National Sports Festival Nigeria has ever witnessed."
During the unveiling ceremony at the June 12 Cultural Centre on Tuesday evening, the governor remarked that although the state had previously hosted the sports event almost twenty years ago, it is well-prepared to host the nation once again, featuring numerous innovative elements aimed at reshaping the national games festival.
Abiodun highlighted that the state takes pride in presenting the creativity and skills embodied in the theme song — abundant with rhythm and spirit — which was crafted by Dr. Bayo Adepetun. Meanwhile, the Mascot came into existence thanks to an exceptional group from the Ministry of Culture.
He mentioned that these artworks encapsulated the vitality, rich cultural legacy, and ambitions of the state’s populace.
Abiodun stated that despite asserting the state’s readiness for a top-notch experience and seamless hosting, "Significant investments have been made by the government to enhance current facilities and build new ones, all aimed at achieving international quality benchmarks."
These initiatives will not just cater to the 2024 Festival but will also endure as a permanent testament to this event. The objective is straightforward: positioning Ogun State as a leading hub for sports tourism and athletic prowess within Nigeria.
Simultaneously, we are making sure that our athletes receive excellent preparation. I applaud our coaches, technical team members, and the athletes for their commitment and determination towards the upcoming challenge. Our faith in you is unwavering, and Ogun State fully supports each one of you.
The governor emphasized that sports go beyond mere competitions; they serve as unifiers, equalizers, and platforms that can propel young people towards national and international fame. He encouraged all parents to encourage and support their children’s participation in these national events.
However, Abiodun also mentioned that although the state is prepared to welcome athletes from across the nation, it requires assistance from various stakeholders such as the local populace, media outlets, and other collaborators to ensure the 2024 NSF is successfully and memorably hosted.
He said, “We are ready to host, but we need all hands on deck to make this a truly unforgettable celebration of talent, unity, and national pride.
For our collaborators from both government bodies and corporate entities—please join us. To those in the press corps—we need your assistance to disseminate this enthusiasm. To every Nigerian citizen—make sure to pencil these dates into your schedules, organize your travels accordingly, and get ready to be part of an historic event.
From May 16 to May 31, the pulse of Nigerian sports will beat strong within Ogun State. Let's make it memorable. Let's make it extraordinary. Let's make it the finest yet. Let's make it Premium.
Abiodun praised the Local Organizing Committee, led by Executive Secretary Dr. Kweku Tandoh and efficiently backed by Bukola Olopade, the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, for their relentless efforts towards making the games festival successful.
